Andrew Cortese is a Principal and Board Director of Bligh Voller Nield. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1993 with an RAIA National Biennale award. He joined Bligh Voller Nield in 1997 after being a design architect with Hassell on the multi award winning Olympic Park Railway Station, Chifley Square and North Sydney Olympic Pool. Andrew’s significant completed projects include the AIA commended Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Centre, RIBA International Award winning University of New South Wales L5 Building, RAIA Sulman Award winning Sydney International Tennis Centre, and RAIA Lloyd Rees Award winning University of New South Wales Sir Robert Webster Building. Current significant projects include the development of the Royal Randwick Racecourse Spectator Precinct, the new Law Faculty for Monash University and a carbon-neutral resort at Noosa. Andrew’s project expertise ranges from sporting venues and educational buildings to commercial work environments, urban spaces and multi-unit residences. His professional competence is his ability to lead large teams for the design and delivery of complex projects, incorporating a partnering and consultation approach with clients to explore solutions that are attuned to a range of business, cultural and environmental objectives. Andrew has been guest critic at The University of Sydney and The University of New South Wales, guest lecturer at UTS, and an invited presenter to the AIA talks programme.
