One of Bendigo’s newest landmarks has been honoured with two prestigious architecture awards.

Bendigo Bank’s headquarters was acknowledged by the Australian Institute of Architects for its modern design and contribution to the city.

The building won two of the 37 awards and prizes at the institute’s annual awards dinner on Friday night that was attended by more than 800 guests.

The building was designed by BVN Architecture and Gray Puksand, and picked up the Commercial Architecture Award and Regional prize.

Gray Puksand also picked up a Pubic Architecture Award for the new Epping Views Primary School in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Chair of the Commercial Architecture jury Maggie Edmond said the building reflected the culture of the Bendigo Bank.

“The building and fit-out skilfully articulate and open and egalitarian corporate culture, achieved through a combination of large floor plates, carefully sized atrium spaces, connecting stairs, abundant hang out spaces and a convincing range of outdoor terraces,” Ms Edmond said.

“The project as an outstanding example of the benefits of an integrated fit-out that considers the logic of the floor-plate and recognises the contribution the building has made to the civility of the town.

“This new commercial building…provides a new work place and community focus.”
