The Mater Hospital Redevelopment Project is a $165 million Public/Private initiative for the replacement of an existing Mater Mothers Hospital, the extension to the Mater Adult Hospital and partial refurbishment of the Stanley Street Pedestrian Bridge.
The new Mater Mothers Hospital is a collocated public and private health facility and a tertiary level teaching hospital providing capacity for 10,000 births by 2010, making it the largest maternity hospital in Australia.
The facility includes; 249 Public/Private obstetric beds, 16 delivery suites, neonatal intensive care facility, maternal foetal medicine and ante natal clinics.
The new hospital has a gross floor area of 14,200m2 over eight levels.
The façade of the Mater Mothers Hospital is a twin skin contemporary metal and glass clad screened building which complements the surrounding masonry urban context.
